VOCATION AND POTENTIAL
- Agricultural Production
- Forestry Production
- Nature and Hunting Tourism
- Sustainable Energy Production and Ecosystem Services
- AGRICULTURAL PRODUCTION
The ongoing citrus production, covering an area of 25hectares, is the agricultural activity of Herdade da Dobra.
The citrus area is leased to CACIAL – Cooperativa Agrícola de
Citricultores do Algarve CRL, providing a good, stable, and growing annual income.
Given the soil and climate conditions observed at Herdade da Dobra, with a high temperature gradient throughout the year, there is clear potential for the production of high-quality wine.
The established terracing of the land and the existence of already built warehouses facilitate the investment in vineyard planting over a significant area and the installation of a winery, aiming to establish na economically profitable operation through the development of a proprietary brand.
- FORESTRY PRODUCTION
The stone pine plantation covers an area of 121 hectares, with the objective of fruit production. The orderly planting of cork oaks (15 hectares) installed in 2021, on terraces, is expected to yield the first cork harvest in 2041.
The orderly planting of strawberry trees, covering an area of 22 hectares, installed along contour lines in 2021, is expected to provide the first harvest (enhanced by the ease of picking) within 5 to 6 years.
The forest is registered and certified in organic production mode, which, in addition to the future value of production, already provides income from the European Community subsidies available for this purpose.
3-NATURE AND HUNTING TOURISM
Given its privileged position in terms of scenic beauty, climate, biodiversity, isolation/privacy,
Herdade da Dobra has enormous potential for tourism
development, particularly nature tourism, throughout the year.
The cadastral division into three properties, the 1,000m² of existing constructions, the seven small dams, more than 30 km of forest paths, and the overall size of the estate, provide significant potential for urban development and nature tourism, which is currently in growing demand.
The proximity to golf courses (10) and the possibility of maintaining an equine herd on the estate also enhances the potential for luxury tourism.
Additionally, the diversity of existing fauna and flora offers great potential for outdoor activities such as bird watching, hunting (partridge, hare, wild boar, and roe deer), and fishing (carp and large mouth bass).
It is also worth mentioning that the proximity to the coast and urban centers,
about 20km away, provides an alternative for beach tourism and more worldly entertainment.
.
4-SUSTAINABLE ENERGY AND ECOSYSTEM SERVICES
Decree-Law nº4/2024 of January 5, currently under regulation, created voluntary carbon market in Portugal, allowing the involvement and participation of agents at both individual and private levels, through the promotion of greenhouse gas (GHG) emission reduction projects. Given the investments made in forestry production, Herdade da Dobra is very well positioned to benefit from this developing market.
Additionally, there is potential for the installation of sustainable alternative energy production capacity, presenting a business opportunity that is expanding and developing globally.
